THIS is the sickening moment a death row inmate smirks as he boasts about murdering and sexually abusing his three month-old son  – as he appeals for a quick execution.

Chilling footage shows vile Travis Mullis calmly describing how he killed baby Alijah, saying: “I laid him on the side of the road and stomped on his head until his skull collapsed.”

Speaking from behind bars in Texas, US, Travis Mullis, now 31, told fox 32 how he attacked his son because he “started crying”.

He said: “He started crying. I tried to console him. Everything I thought would work didn’t work. Ultimately, I ended up sexually assaulting him and killing him. I laid him on the side of the road and stomped on his head until his skull collapsed.”

The prisoner, who was 21 when he killed Alijah in January 2008, this week filed a motion to waive his appeals and to get rid of his lawyer.

He is apparently “ready to accept” his punishment.

He said: “I’m guilty of what I did and the death sentence is the legally justified and, I believe, morally appropriate sentence for what I’ve done.”

Twisted Mullis also told how he’d “asked God for forgiveness a long time ago”.

“If I go to hell, I go to hell,” he said.

Shortly before he murdered his baby, Mullis had reportedly taken a friend’s young daughter to a school playground, intending to molest her.

Alijah’s mutilated body was found at 9am on January 20 2008 by a couple on a wildlife trail along Seawall Boulevard, Galveston Island, and was later identified by his mother, Karen Kohberger, 32.

Kohberger was initially questioned by police, coming under suspicion having failed to report her son as missing.

She said Mullis had woken, agitated, at 4am on the morning of the killing. He told her he was having flashbacks of childhood sexual abuse and was worried he might hurt Alijah.

Mullis was told he would receive the death penalty and began his plight to have the execution hurried through.

On Wednesday the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the decision, after he was deemed to be of sufficient psychological capacity to make the request.

In most cases death row convicts are granted automatic appeal.
