Most people will experience the common psychological phenomenon called pareidolia when browsing these specially selected snaps.

This occurs when our brains respond to unusual images or sounds by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists – in other words our minds will fill in the gaps when faced with confusing visual stimuli.

Christopher French, of the British Psychological Society, says, “A classic example is the Stone Age guy standing there, scratching his beard, wondering whether that rustling in the bushes really is a sabre-toothed tiger.

“You’re much more likely to survive if you assume it’s a sabre-toothed tiger and get the hell out of there – otherwise you may end up as lunch”.

WHAT IS PAREIDOLIA?

Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon where the mind sees a familiar image or pattern where it doesn’t actually exist.

Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces, or objects in cloud formations, the Man in the Moon, the Moon rabbit, hidden messages in recorded music played in reverse or at higher- or lower-than-normal speeds, and hearing indistinct voices in random noise such as that produced by air conditioners or fans.

It’s a product of human evolution as it helps us to survive in the wild and so babies smile more and appear cuter to adults.

Whether you are fooled by sense or not, it is undeniable that there are hilariously familiar features lurking in these hilarious photos.

See for yourself and try to work out what is really going.
