A YELLOW vest protester had his hand “blown off” in clashes with police in France.

The Paris Gilet Jaunes demonstrator was left bleeding heavily as violent protests continue to grip the French capital.

The Associated Press said that paramedics were seen huddled around the injured protester, 30, near the gates of the National Assembly as they provided emergency treatment.

Some of the paramedics served as a barrier to stop media and demonstrators from getting too close.

Police confirmed that a protester had a hand injury, but provided no further details other than to say treatment was being provided.

The serious hand injury was sustained during violent clashes with cops on the streets of Paris today in the 13th consecutive week of demonstrations.

RT says that video footage of the moment the man was seriously hurt showed a blast – cops were firing tear gas and flash grenades to deter protesters.

It is believed he was a photographer for the Yellow Vest movement, and was taking pictures of people outside the National Assembly.

URINATED ON NATIONAL ASSEMBLY GATES

Fire department spokesman Gildas Lecoeur told AP that the injured man had a bloodied hand and was taken to a hospital.

He couldn’t confirm the man’s current condition.

Cops said that about 10 demonstrators have been arrested so far as scuffles broke out between protesters and police near the Champs-Elysees avenue and the National Assembly.

Batons and fired tear gas were used to disperse demonstrators, some of whom threw debris at riot police hunkered down in front of the National Assembly.

The protest in the French capital passed the National Assembly, to end up near the Eiffel Tower this afternoon.

Le Monde reports that while at the National Assembly, protesters urinated on the gates and attempted to force their way into the entrance.

Bus shelters were also damaged during today’s demonstration.

The activists, who have brought hundreds of thousands onto the streets over the past three months, are now trying to achieve electoral success.

But the movement is politically divided and has no appointed leader, says AP.

President Emmanuel Macron – the target of many demonstrators’ anger – seems to be clawing back support as he tries to quell the movement with a national political debate.

Recent polls show Macron’s approval ratings rising.
