JOHN Travolta has spoken out on the controversial “Sandy is Dead” theory from the Grease movie which stars the actor and Olivia Newton-John as star-crossed lovers.
The film catapulted the two leads into pop culture icon status and while it remains a classic, it’s had a resurgence lately due to the bizarre theory that surfaced on Reddit three years ago.
Some fans believe that Sandy Olsson drowned to death at the beach where she first met heartthrob Danny – and that the rest of the film was her coma fantasy.
64-year-old John Travolta – who played Danny Zuko in the cult classic – told USA Today: “I love it, imaginations are awesome.
“These things are bound to happen to something timeless like this. It’s so fun.”
But despite his initial enthusiasm, the actor went on to debunk the theory that suggests the flying car scene in the film’s climax is Sandy’s ascent to the afterlife.
John added: “I could have fun with it. But I know the writers of Grease, and I was around in the original days. I can’t take it too far.”
Olivia Newton-John has previously spoken out on the bizarre theory.
In September 2016 she confessed: “I thought it was hilarious. But I thought, if that’s true, we were the first zombie musical! I think we look pretty good considering.”
